A profile of the world’s largest record store, Bananas Records, located in St. Petersburg, Fla. Interviews provided by Doug and Michelle Allen. Videography by Paul Lockwood.
The iconic record warehouse began as a book store, called Allen’s Bookstore. The Allens purchased an estate with a large chunk of records. And so, record sales began … and grew … and the focus segued to music exclusively.
Because competition with major retail stores proves challenging for record stores, Record Store Day was created to promote and celebrate independent record stores.
Bananas Records has been able to weather industry changes and remains a local favorite.
Though most sales are Rock n’ Roll, you can find anything at Bananas Records — from classical to pop. Stop by and check out the inventory or just marvel at the massive collection in our vinyl warehouse.
